THE OCEAN @ CASSELMAN’S 11/02/11 DENVER-CO

The Ocean is a progressive/experimental metal band from Germany that formed in the early 2000’s. They mixed hardcore, sludge and harsh experimental metal and came up with their album “FluXion” then they got heavy and soft, an mixed classical, metal with electronics and created the excellent “Precambrian” an album that creates an ambient doomrock soundscape.

What better way to spend Halloween night that with an extreme metal show, actually I can think of many better ways but since this is the only good show that night in the Mile Hi City go and enjoy, here are the bands playing:

Warbringer – thrash metal from California, brutal riffs! Lazarus A.D. – thrash metal from Wisconsin, Landmine Marathon – death metal from Arizona and Diamond Plate – thrash metal from Illinois. Happy Halloween you sons of a motherless goat!

EARTH CRISIS @ THE BLUEBIRD THEATER 10/27/11 DENVER-CO

Earth Crisis is a hardcore metallic punk band from Syracuse that formed in the late 80’s. They are known for having a vegan lifestyle, being straight edge, supporting animal rights and dealing with social and political issues. They’ve released the excellent album “Destroy The Machines” pure metallic straight edge punk fury and a more metal “Slither,” they also released two very good ep’s “All Out War” and “Firestorm.”

Also playing: Cavalera Conspiracy – the brothers are back in town with the real Sepultura reunion, Max’s howl and Igor’s insane drumming make them two of the best in the extreme community.

OPETH @ THE OGDEN THEATER 10/25/11 DENVER-CO

Opeth are a progressive death metal band from Sweden, formed in 1990 they have gone through many line-up changes, the only original member is vocalist/guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt. They have released many albums, some of their best are “Blackwater Park,” “Orchid,” “Damnation” and “Watershed,” their style has changed through the years, they go from death metal growls to acoustic passages with whispered vocals but the music is always heavy and progressive. Their latest release “Heritage” is growl-free more prog rock than metal, more up-tempo, melodic an aggressive than their previous growl-free album. “Take the road where devils speak God is Dead.”  

Also playing: Katatonia – metal band from Sweden, started off as an excellent death/doom metal band and then transitioned into some kind of shit metal band.

Archagathus is a political grindcore band from Canada, they released the album “Canadian Horse” pure  mincecore.

IMMOLATION @ THE LARIMER LOUNGE 10/19/11 DENVER-CO

Immolation are a death metal band from New York that formed in the late 80’s. They are evil, dark, heavy and brutal, a classic slab of american death metal. Their first album “Dawn Of Possession” is a classic, tech-death/thrash riffs at incredible speed, raw melodies, evil guttural growls and fast and brutal drums are what make the album one of the genres best.

THE GODDAMN GALLOWS @ 3 KINGS TAVERN 10/16/11 DENVER-CO

Insane gypsy travelin’ music with a crazy washboard vest spoon player on pcp, The Goddamn Gallows are a twang-out punk rock gutterbilly band from Michigan. Formed in 2004, they are known for their crazy sped-up psychobilly shows, they released the excellent album “Ghost Of The Rails.”
