DENVER NOISE FEST @ OLD CURTIS STREET BAR 4/22 THRU 4/24 2011

 It’s becoming a yearly thing, come and celebrate bleakly ethereal atmospheres, vast droning synth sounds and bassy warps, a sea of dark sounds. This gathering of bands isn’t about riffs, hooks or songs; all the elements of rock and metal are entirely absent. Here are the bands:

DEATH ANGEL @ LARIMER LOUNGE 4/18/11 DENVER-CO

Death Angel are a thrash/speed metal band from the Bay Area that started back in the early 80’s. Last year they released the excellent “Relentless Retribution” aggressive as hell, full of thrashing riffs, double bass and killer solos.

Also playing: Steel Blades Of Vengeance – thrash  from Denver and The Four Horseman – metal from Denver.

CLINGING TO THE TREES OF A FOREST FIRE @ THE MARQUIS THEATER 3/14/11 DENVER-CO

Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire are a dirty and bleak grindcore band from Colorado. Also playing are grind punks Dodsfalla and Disease Called Human from Coloado and Deercreek – Louder, lower, slower and dumber grime doom metal from the Mile Hi.

BUZZOV*EN @ 3 KINGS TAVERN 12/19/10 DENVER-CO

Buzzov*en are a violent live band, their shows are chaotic, full of hatred, pain, addiction, and depression. They are one of the first sludge/thrash/noise metal bands along with Eyehategod.  They were formed in 1989 in North Carolina and their current line-up includes Kirk Fisher (guitars and vocals) Dave “Dixie” Collins (bass) and Ramsey (drums). 

Also playing:  Kingdom Of Magic – Stoner metal from Denver and Il Cattivo – Hardcore punk from The Mile Hi City.

BLACK COBRA @ LARIMER LOUNGE 7/20/10 DENVER-CO

Black Cobra are a two piece sludge/punk band from San Francisco that formed in 2002. Led by Jason Landrian (guitars & vocals) and Rafael Martinez (drums) they fuse punk chords with the faster parts of sludge, if you where to compare them to anybody it would be High On Fire or The Melvins. Live as a two piece band they produce a large but tight wall of fuzz, very good and loud noise. Signed to Southern Lord Records last year they released “Chronomega,” a fast and heavy lp that will satisfy any fan of sludge.

Also playing: Howl – sludge/thrash influenced metal from Rhode Island, they just released the masterpiece “Full Of Hell.” Adai – bong rippin’ labyrinth metal from Denver and East Of The Wall – progressive instrumental metal from New Jersey.

Local band Cryogen will be playing their death/thrash metal at the Larimer Lounge. Also playing: Esoparthe –  post metal local band and Tree Bites Man –  instrumental metal local band, very atmospheric. Their first show at a club.

R.I.P. PETRUS T. RATAJCZYK “PETER STEELE” of TYPE O NEGATIVE

Peter Steele, one of metal’s best vocalists, passed away April 14th, 2010. He was the lead singer and bassist of the gothic metal band, Type O Negative. He cretaed (in my opinion) one of the best funeral doom metal songs of all time: “Bloody Kisses” (A Death in the Family). He shall be missed, rest in peace motherfucker.
